Supreme court were whether the plaintiff-in-error, a negro, was a citizen of the United States, in the sense in which that word is used in the Constitution, and whether the U. S. Circuit court had jurisdiction in the above mentioned case. The constitutionality of the Missouri compromise act was also brought into question
